Training Course


Newcomers to the game want to get playing as soon as possible, we offer a ‘get-you-started lesson’ which is free to everyone. This lesson takes about an hour and is a quick run through of Lesson 1 of the training programme. Members can take advantage of further coaching or training, free of charge.

Lesson 1 - Beginners

Introduction and Getting you Started

Topics covered.

1. Safety

  • a. Never throw a boule if a player or spectator is in front
  • b. Warn when shooting or throwing a high point
  • c. Never throw a boule to catch - roll them along the ground
  • d. Stand 2m away from thrower and the jack
  • e. Don't walk across other games

2. Basic Rules

  • a. Playing distances
  • b. Size of jack and throwing circle
  • c. Different weight and size of boule.

3. Choice of Boule

  • a. Correct weight
  • b. Correct Size
  • c. Try other boules before buying

4. Holding the boule

  • Palm on top
  • Fingers close together - Thumb hardly used

5. Stance

  • a. Comfortable
  • b. Balanced

6. The Throw

  • Good technique
  • Smooth sufficient backswing
  • Follow through
  • Correct release

Membership
